As some of you might have read in a post a couple of weeks ago, I met with Natalie, the creator of Crystyled. We spoke about how she started this gorgeous brand and what plans she has for Crystyled in the Middle East as well as exciting offers she has for the holiday season! (Check out the interview here )
Part of the collaboration was to feature Crystyled in a styled shoot, put together and modelled by myself, and photographed by the brilliant Fanny Turcotte.
The idea I had for this shoot was inspired by the Michael Kors FW13′ campaign, which you can see more of here
. It was the unnatural and staged elements that drew me to the campaign from the beginning, as I knew it was something I could work with easily in Dubai. With backdrops of almost fake skylines and flying helicopters, and a totally modern feel, the campaign fit perfectly as a general theme for both the city and the Crystyled brand.
Location is always an issue in the U.A.E., as you require a license to shoot in public places. I was searching for a simple yet unique area, not only for the shoot theme, but to also make sure all the attention went straight to the accessories. Luckily for me, Fanny had found this amazing location that was exactly what I was looking for. Grey stairways leading to nowhere, the skyline of downtown Dubai in the background – it was perfect! Keeping things monochrome, I chose a simple black dress from Zara as the blank canvas with which I would pair all of the Crystyled goodies.
We had an amazing morning shooting these sparkly creations and I am so happy with the turn-out. Fanny worked wonders with the photography and I really feel like we captured the essence of Crystyled – adding that element of individuality to an otherwise simple outfit.
I’m really looking forward to hearing what you all think 🙂
