Christmas is nearly here

The sleigh bells are ringing and Santa is almost on his way. We’ve all got our Xmas jumpers on, Love Actually on the telly and the mince pies ready… Christmas is very nearly here.

What are your favourite traditions at Christmas time? I always love to hear what other people do each year, it’s so wonderful how traditions differ from country to country, culture to culture. When spending time in Austria a few years ago, I remember Christmas was celebrated on the eve more than the day itself. Gifts were exchanged on the 24th and candles lit on the Christmas tree, it was magical (although I did wonder how many trees had burnt down in the past!). In Greece, on the other hand, Christmas gifts are opened on New Year’s day, much to the dismay of all the little children.  In Italy they eat panettone, and I’m sure in Australia, Christmas day means a good old BBQ in the backyard!

Despite my European heritage, I actually grew up spending most Christmases in the sandy desert of the U.A.E. We wake up to summery blue skies and eat Christmas lunch al fresco. Some people spend it by the beach, building sandmen instead of snowmen. We do miss out on a lot of the Christmas festivities that happen back home, but surprisingly, Dubai has some of the most beautifully decorated Christmas trees you’ve ever seen! But whatever tradition you have, however you choose to celebrate this special day, we all have one thing in common: the chance to spend quality time and a beautiful day surrounded by family, friends and loved ones. The chance to give thanks, reflect on the year gone by and count our blessings.

So, I’d like to wish you all the happiest of Christmases and say a big thank you to those who have followed and enjoyed my blog all this time. I read each and every one of your comments and truly appreciate them all. So please enjoy a collection of my last Christmas captures for 2015, a selection of my favourites I’ve taken this year, and hope you all have the best time tomorrow (and don’t eat too much turkey!)

Merry Christmas!
